Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development has been a buzz word for a number of years. The world is changing fast and environmental issues need to be given a prominent place in how we educate.

Some of the topics that will be covered in the Sustainable Development short course include:

  • The concept of sustainability
  • Water Management
  • Renewable Energy
  • Plastic Management
  • Leadership in the field of sustainable development

Presentation partners in this short course are still being developed, but will include:

Jess Schulschenk Jess is a director at the Sustainability Institute in Stellenbosch. She is an extraordinary lecturer with the School of Public Leadership at Stellenbosch University, coordinating the Sustainable Enterprise module for PGD and MPhil programmes. She holds an MPhil in Sustainable Development from Stellenbosch University and a BSc in Ocean and Environmental Sciences from UCT.
Therese Lamprechts Therese has been managing the school outreach programme at the Centre for Renewable Energy Studies at the University of Stellenbosch for the past nine years. She holds a Master’s Degree is Environmental Education from Rhodes University.
Thumakele Gosa Thumakele holds a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development from Stellenbosch University. He has travelled to Germany and Kenya on invitation from development forums. He is community development project director at Stellenbosch University and IMADCO. He is a board member of Stellenbosch 360 and of Calling Education.
