Calling Academy uses a focused, but relevant subject choice as a feature of its low cost model. Prospective parents and learners are advised to view the provisional subject choice for Grade 10 – 12 below before enrolling for Grade 8-9. The subject choices below for Grade 8-9 and for Grade 10-12 are provisional.

The school will follow the national South African CAPS curriculum.

GRADE 8 AND 9 SUBJECT CHOICE

SUBJECTS GRADE 8 AND 9

  • English Home Language
  • Afrikaans Additional Language OR isiXhosa Additional Language
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences (Physical Science and Biology)
  • Social Sciences (History and Geography)
  • Economic and Management Science
  • Technology
  • Life Orientation
  • Creative Arts

Learners have to indicate their choice of additional language for Grade 8 and 9 on their application forms.

GRADE 10 – 12 SUBJECT CHOICE

COMPULSORY SUBJECTS:

  • English Home Language
  • Mathematics
  • Life Orientation
  • Afrikaans Additional Language OR isiXhosa Additional Language

CHOICE SUBJECTS:

Learners must choose three further subjects in addition to the compulsory subjects. The exact groups for the Grade 10-12 subject choices and subject combination possibilities are yet to be determined. Learners will not be able to choose any combination of these subjects.

Given the small amount of learners in the grade group, the subject choice for Grade 10 in 2019 might deviate from the list below as learners start indicating their choice subjects.

The school’s focused subject choice will mean that the following subjects will probably NOT be offered in Grade 10-12. The subject choice options will be reviewed in 2018.

  • Mathematical Literacy (learners are obliged to take Mathematics until Grade 12)
  • Dramatic and Visuals Art
  • Music
  • Mechanical Technology
  • Third Languages apart from English Home Language and Afrikaans or isiXhosa Additional Language
  • Information Technology (IT)
